Job Summary

The University of Southern California is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Gift Planning to join its University Advancement team. As a key member of the Office of Gift Planning, this individual will play a critical role in developing and implementing strategic plans to secure major gifts from alumni, friends, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute comprehensive gift planning strategies to maximize fundraising efforts and achieve University goals.
  • Collaborate with internal colleagues and external professional advisors to identify and cultivate major gift prospects, and to develop and implement effective solicitation strategies.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to donors, development officers, and other stakeholders on complex gifting techniques and tax issues, including charitable gift annuities, donor-advised funds, and other planned giving vehicles.
  • Use advanced gift planning knowledge to evaluate donors' financial situations and goals, and to recommend optimal gifting options.
  • Prepare and present gift proposals to major donors and prospects, and to educate USC development officers and other stakeholders on issues surrounding planned and other major gifting techniques.
  • Manage multiple major gift planning prospects and initiatives simultaneously, and to prioritize and allocate resources effectively to achieve University goals.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest trends and best practices in gift planning and fundraising, and to apply this knowledge to inform and improve University fundraising efforts.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as business, finance, or non-profit management.
  • Seven years of experience in planned giving, fundraising, or a related field, with a proven track record of success in securing major gifts.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with internal staff, external stakeholders, and donors.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of various planned giving vehicles and expertise with financial planning techniques and related tax laws.
