About the Role

The University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Development to join its School of Dentistry team. As a key member of the development team, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading the strategic planning and implementation of major gift fundraising initiatives to support the school's academic priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive major gift strategy to identify, cultivate, and solicit gifts from key stakeholders, including alumni, donors, and corporate partners.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and support for fundraising initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the development team to create and execute fundraising campaigns, events, and solicitations to achieve annual and long-term fundraising goals.
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, with a focus on identifying and pursuing new opportunities.
  • Work closely with the school's leadership and faculty to understand their priorities and develop fundraising strategies to support their goals.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the school's academic programs, research initiatives, and clinical services to effectively communicate the value of supporting the school's mission.
  • Prepare and present compelling cases for support to donors, including proposals, reports, and other materials.
  • Meet or exceed annual fundraising goals, with a focus on securing major gifts from key stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Minimum of three years of fundraising experience, with a proven track record of securing major gifts.
  • Strong knowledge of fundraising principles, practices, and strategies, with a focus on major gifts and planned giving.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including donors, faculty, staff, and alumni.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on collaboration and partnership-building.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and strategically.
  • Ability to travel as needed, with a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as business, marketing, or communications.
  • Experience working in a university or academic setting, with a focus on fundraising and development.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other fundraising software and tools.
