About the Role

The UCLA Library is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Development to lead our major gifts program. As a key member of our development team, you will be responsible for planning and implementing a proactive major gifts program that supports the UCLA Library's integral programs and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to plan and implement a strong major gifts program
  • Conceptualize, plan, and implement special events to engage donors and stakeholders
  • Solicit and close gifts in the annual, special, and/or major gifts range
  • Develop sophisticated strategies for planning, implementing, and administering major gift solicitations
  • Recruit, orient, train, organize, motivate, and evaluate staff and volunteers who support development goals and programs
  • Establish priorities, manage multiple tasks, and complete work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Requirements
  • Minimum of three years of fundraising experience and/or prior professional experience in a related field
  • Experience conceptualizing, planning, and implementing special events
  • Experience in and strong documented record of gifts solicited and closed in the annual, special, and/or major gifts range
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of fundraising in a university setting
  • Proven skills in developing sophisticated strategies for planning, implementing, and administering major gift solicitations
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to work harmoniously with volunteers, academic leaders, faculty, and other development staff
  • Demonstrated skill and/or ability to work with a dean and/or senior faculty or equivalent leadership
  • Strong ability to recruit, orient, train, organize, motivate, and evaluate staff and volunteers
  • Ability to establish priorities, manage multiple tasks, and complete work under tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators, and colleagues
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite of applications and familiarity with other applications, programs, and databases

  • Bachelor's Degree
Working Conditions
  • Ability to work some weekends and/or evenings as needed
  • Ability to travel as needed
