The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Research Technician 1-2 or Laboratory Specialist to become an integral part of our innovative research team. This position offers a unique chance to explore the intricate mechanisms by which immune cells detect and adapt to swift alterations in their surrounding environment. The primary focus will be on research related to host defense, inflammation, and tissue stability, with particular emphasis on the roles of ion channels, GPCRs, and calcium signaling in the sensory functions of various tissue-resident macrophages.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Examine cell-intrinsic defense mechanisms
  • Investigate immunometabolic processes
  • Analyze the functional specialization of organ-resident myeloid cells
  • Research neuroimmune interactions

To be considered for this role, candidates should meet the following qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Laboratory Research Technician 1:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience, which may include student internships. A Bachelor's degree may substitute for experience.

Laboratory Research Technician 2:

  • Education: Associate's degree
  • Experience: At least 2 years of laboratory experience, including student internships. A Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field may be considered in lieu of experience.

Laboratory Specialist:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Experience: 3 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, 6 years of laboratory-related experience may be accepted in place of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates should possess college-level training in physical or life sciences
  • 2 years of laboratory experience is preferred

Physical Requirements:

This position necessitates prolonged periods of standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for laboratory animals. Additionally, it involves tasks such as keyboarding, benchwork, and precise finger movements during animal procedures.
