Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Laboratory Technician to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the laboratory, performing laboratory tasks, and assisting lab personnel with routine experiments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Setting up and performing experiments of a repetitive nature and preparing culture media, chemicals, reagents, and solutions as instructed.
  • Performing cell isolation/culture and molecular biology experiments and analysis.
  • Participating in research involving experiments with animals to include care and feeding, in vivo and ex vivo experiments, and observation during post-operative or treatment periods.
  • Operating, adjusting, and maintaining specific scientific apparatuses and instruments.
  • Ordering lab supplies and maintaining inventory as well as ensuring all receipts are uploaded and attached in the system upon receipt.
  • Recording accurate information and logs of experimental data.
  • Keeping informed of new lab techniques.
  • Providing routine, technical, and administrative support to research projects.
  • Maintaining laboratory regulatory compliance.
Requirements
  • Laboratory and Research Technician 2
    • Education: Associate's degree
    • Experience: At least two years of lab experience, which may include student experience. A bachelor's degree in a related science will be considered in place of experience.
  • Lab Specialist
    • Education: Bachelor's degree
    • Experience: 3 years of experience. 6 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Lab Specialist Intermediate
    • Education: Bachelor's degree
    • Experience: 6 years of experience in a lab technician role. Master's degree may substitute for required experience. 9 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Lab Specialist Senior
    • Education: Bachelor's degree
    • Experience: 9 years of experience in a lab technician role. May substitute with Master's or Terminal degree plus 4 years of experience in a lab technician role and supervisory experience. 12 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.
Physical Demands

This position can involve extensive periods of standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. It also requires keyboarding, other bench work, and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.
