Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will provide essential technical support within a dynamic research environment, collaborating with undergraduate students, research scientists, and technical personnel. Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining a mouse colony, including tasks such as genotyping and husbandry.
- Managing inventory of laboratory supplies and ensuring equipment is operational.
- Preparing common laboratory solutions and conducting routine laboratory tasks.
- Assisting in various experimental procedures, including tissue harvesting, microscopy, PCR, Western blotting, and flow cytometry.
Team Collaboration
This position emphasizes teamwork, requiring individuals who are proactive and engaged. Candidates should possess a strong desire to learn and adapt, demonstrating creativity in addressing experimental challenges. Experience with animal research is preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
Laboratory Technician 2
- Education: Associate's degree.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a laboratory setting, which may include academic experience. A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field may substitute for experience.
Research Laboratory Specialist
- Education: Bachelor's degree.
- Experience: 3 years of relevant experience; 6 years of laboratory experience may substitute for the degree.
Intermediate Laboratory Specialist
- Education: Bachelor's degree.
- Experience: 6 years in a laboratory technician role; a Master's degree may substitute for required experience. 9 years of lab-related experience may also be accepted in lieu of a degree.
Senior Laboratory Specialist
- Education: Bachelor's degree.
- Experience: 9 years in a laboratory technician role; a Master's or Terminal degree plus 4 years of experience may substitute. 12 years of lab-related experience may also be accepted in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- Entry-level candidates with a strong scientific background are encouraged to apply.
- Experienced candidates should have knowledge of biological procedures and animal handling.
- Familiarity with protocol development and compliance with regulations is advantageous.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills are essential.
Physical Requirements
This role may require prolonged periods of standing and performing tasks that involve fine motor skills. Candidates should be prepared for hands-on laboratory work.
