Position Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a Laboratory and Research Technician II to join the Biomolecular Analysis Facility (BAF) Core. This role involves conducting sample preparation, developing methodologies, and operating analytical instruments. The BAF Core is equipped with a Shared Instrument section that the technician will oversee to ensure accessibility for all users.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Processing samples for proteomics and metabolomics utilizing mass spectrometry techniques.
  • Executing essential procedures such as sample processing, chemical modifications, digestion, clean-up, and loading of mass spectrometers.
  • Maintaining meticulous documentation and adhering to established protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: An Associate's degree is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience is necessary, which may include academic experience. A Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field may substitute for experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in a scientific discipline such as chemistry, biology, or biochemistry.
  • Previous experience in protein chemistry.
  • Familiarity with mass spectrometry techniques.

Physical Requirements

This position may require extended periods of standing and squatting while performing experiments or handling specimens. It also involves keyboarding and tasks that necessitate fine motor skills.
