Position Overview
The Department of Biology and the Institute of Applied Life Sciences (IALS) at UMass Amherst are inviting applications for a faculty position aimed at developing a research program with significant translational potential. This role focuses on utilizing animal models or human-derived cells to gain mechanistic insights and therapeutic strategies for neurological disorders. Areas of research interest encompass neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, as well as recovery from acute injuries like traumatic brain injury or stroke. We are particularly keen on candidates whose research initiatives complement our existing strengths in neuroscience and extend this expertise into health-related domains.
The selected candidate will be expected to cultivate a dynamic, externally funded research program, deliver effective instruction, and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students while contributing to departmental and college service.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. and relevant post-doctoral experience in neuroscience or related disciplines. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional potential to establish a thriving translational research program and exhibit the capability to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels. We are in search of qualified individuals for the assistant professor role.
