Position Overview
The Department of Kinesiology is a distinguished leader in the exploration of human movement and is one of six departments within the School of Public Health and Health Sciences. Our team consists of 13 tenure-track faculty and 6 lecturer faculty, complemented by 2 undergraduate advisors and 3 administrative staff. We cater to approximately 680 undergraduate majors and 40 graduate students, including postdoctoral fellows. Our research and educational endeavors are organized into four primary domains: Biomechanics, Movement Neuroscience, Physiology, and Physical Activity & Health. Faculty members spearhead innovative research initiatives that range from molecular mechanisms of movement to community-based interventions aimed at enhancing physical activity and health. Our department is equipped with cutting-edge research laboratories, providing both students and faculty with the essential resources for pioneering research and experiential learning.

Job Responsibilities
The Department of Kinesiology at UMass Amherst, situated within the School of Public Health & Health Sciences, invites applications for a full-time, academic year (nine-month) Lecturer position. This role involves contributing to and assisting in the delivery of our undergraduate and graduate curricula, with a potential focus on an emerging 4+1 BS/MS program in strength and conditioning.
The successful candidate will engage within a dynamic department to provide student-centered learning experiences, both in-person and online. The typical course load is equivalent to 3-4 courses per semester, with adjustments made for larger class sizes and assigned service responsibilities. Service duties may include participation on departmental, school, and university committees as designated by the department chair.

Qualifications
Applicants must possess the following qualifications:
- A master's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Biological Sciences, or a related field.
- Expertise in strength and conditioning, human performance, data analytics, advanced physiological testing, or other relevant areas that enhance the department's strengths.
- Prior teaching experience as an instructor of record for academic courses, demonstrating potential for excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Practical, hands-on experience in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a closely related discipline.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Commitment to promoting equity and inclusion, with evidence of working in a diverse team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in an academic setting.
- Evidence of effective leadership capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates who possess:
- A Doctoral degree (by the start date) in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related discipline.
- Certification from ACSM, NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association), or another relevant professional organization.
- Experience with collaborative and innovative teaching methodologies.
- Ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants for their respective courses.
- Preference for content areas that require coverage.
Compensation and Benefits
UMass Amherst offers a competitive salary along with an attractive benefits package for Lecturer faculty. The minimum starting salary for a full-time, academic year (9-month) appointment at the rank of Lecturer is $57,000, with actual salary determined by experience. There is potential for additional compensation for summer and winter educational activities. This is a benefited, renewable 2-year position contingent upon performance. Lecturers become eligible for a continuing appointment after three years of service. This position is part of the MSP/MTA bargaining unit, and details on benefits can be found through the university's resources.
