Job Overview

The selected candidate will engage in research within Professor Jane Kent's Muscle Physiology Lab, part of the Kinesiology Department, focusing on an NIH-funded initiative exploring muscle function and aging.

The postdoctoral researcher will play a crucial role in executing all phases of the studies, analyzing and presenting findings, overseeing student researchers, and actively participating in the dissemination of research outcomes through conferences and publications.

Collaboration with all team members, including the Project Coordinator, is essential. Regular participation in weekly lab meetings with Dr. Kent and the research team, as well as monthly project-wide meetings, is expected.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement research studies aligned with the Principal Investigator's program.
  • Conduct data collection and analysis.
  • Review relevant scientific literature.
  • Supervise student researchers involved in the project.
  • Prepare abstracts, manuscripts, presentations, and reports pertaining to the research.
  • Ensure compliance with IRB and other regulatory requirements related to the project.
  • Coordinate research activities with faculty co-investigators and their teams.
  • Meet regularly with the Principal Investigator to assess project progress.
Qualifications
  • PhD in muscle physiology or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated potential for fostering a diverse working environment.
  • Proven track record of publishing research and presenting at academic conferences.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a research team.
  • Proficiency in data management and visualization using Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Skills
  • Understanding of muscle metabolism.
  • Familiarity with literature on aging and muscle physiology.
  • Statistical analysis expertise.
  • Experience mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers.
  • Knowledge of IRB protocols and human subjects research.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, R, or similar software.
Compensation

NIH Postdoctoral Stipend.

Additional Information

This position typically operates in an office/lab environment, with a standard workweek of Monday through Friday, totaling 40 hours.
