Position Overview

The Department of Biology at UMass Amherst is inviting applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, specializing in any aspect of Eukaryotic Genetics. The selected candidate will be expected to develop a dynamic, externally funded research program, provide effective instruction and mentorship to both undergraduate and graduate students, and engage in service activities that support the department and college. A key aspect of this role is a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity, equity, inclusivity, and accessibility within the scientific community.

While the search is open to various organisms and methodologies, the ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in utilizing genetic techniques to explore biological systems and will contribute to the department's educational mission through teaching modern genetics. Areas of research interest may include genetic inheritance mechanisms, the relationship between genotype and phenotype, and the genetic underpinnings of eukaryotic development or functionality. Proficiency in contemporary genetic methodologies, including genomic techniques, is highly desirable. The Biology Department offers a collaborative and expansive research environment, with faculty engaged in a wide range of biological research. Faculty members also mentor graduate students through interdepartmental programs in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Neuroscience and Behavior, Plant Biology, and Organismic and Evolutionary Biology.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Biology or a related discipline, complemented by relevant post-doctoral experience. We are seeking exceptional candidates who meet the qualifications for an assistant professor role. In extraordinary circumstances, highly qualified individuals at other academic ranks may also be considered.
