Position Overview
The Department of Biology at UMass Boston is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor role specializing in Eukaryotic Genetics. The ideal candidate will be expected to cultivate a robust, externally funded research initiative, deliver high-quality instruction, and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students. Research Focus
While the search is open regarding the specific organism or methodology, the successful applicant should possess a strong background in genetic techniques to explore biological systems. Contributions to the department's mission will include teaching modern genetics, with research interests potentially encompassing:
- Genetic mechanisms of inheritance
- Connections between genotype and phenotype
- Genetic foundations of eukaryotic development or function
Innovative genetic methodologies, including genomic approaches, are encouraged. The Biology Department fosters a collaborative research environment, with faculty engaged in a wide spectrum of biological research. Faculty members also mentor graduate students through interdisciplinary programs in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Neuroscience and Behavior, Plant Biology, and Organismic and Evolutionary Biology.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in Biology or a related discipline, complemented by relevant post-doctoral experience. We are particularly interested in outstanding candidates eligible for the assistant professor position. In exceptional cases, highly qualified individuals at other academic ranks may be considered.
