Job Summary

The Senior Vice President of Development provides strategic leadership and direction to ensure the organization's stability and growth through philanthropic strategy. This role is responsible for developing and implementing effective fundraising plans to meet the organization's objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Strategy
    • Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to meet the organization's goals and objectives.
    • Provide leadership and direction to the Development team, including Major Gifts, Mid-Level Donors, Special Events, Grants, and Development Operations.
  • Donor Engagement and Stewardship
    • Build and maintain relationships with major donors, board members, foundation trustees, staff, and community leaders.
    • Develop and implement strategies to cultivate and solicit major gifts.
  • Grant Management and Compliance
    • Manage foundation grants, including oversight of application and reporting deadlines and requirements.
    • Ensure compliance with the Board of Directors' governance policies on development and the standards established by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).
  • Team Management and Development
    • Hire, train, lead, motivate, and coach department staff.
    • Develop and implement training programs to ensure staff have the necessary skills and knowledge to meet fundraising objectives.
  • Reporting and Analysis
    • Prepare and present regular reports to the President/CEO, Board of Directors, and other senior leadership on fundraising progress and trends.
    • Provide analysis and recommendations to inform fundraising strategies and decisions.
Qualifications
  • Masters degree + 8 years of relevant professional development experience, or
  • Bachelors degree + 10 years of relevant professional development experience, or
  • Associates degree + 12 years of relevant professional development experience, or
  • H/S diploma or equivalent + 14 years of relevant professional development experience.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in a senior leadership role in a complex fund-raising environment.
  • Must have at least 6 years of supervisory experience.
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification desired.
