Job Overview

This is a temporary position. Applications will be evaluated continuously.

Lifeguards are skilled professionals dedicated to ensuring safety in aquatic environments. They operate under the general oversight of the Aquatics Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements

Lifeguard I and Lifeguard II:

The primary responsibilities of these roles include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensuring public safety at the aquatic facility through vigilant lifeguarding;
  • Observing activities within the aquatic area to avert accidents;
  • Upholding facility regulations and intervening in hazardous situations;
  • Advising swimmers on unsafe practices;
  • Performing rescues for individuals in distress and providing first aid;
  • Documenting significant incidents for the Aquatics Coordinator;
  • Maintaining equipment and supplies in optimal condition;
  • Inspecting the facility for cleanliness and assisting in maintaining a hazard-free environment;
  • Reporting safety concerns to the Aquatics Coordinator;
  • Participating in training sessions;
  • Gathering feedback from patrons and communicating relevant information;
  • Completing incident reports, training logs, and other necessary documentation;
  • Monitoring and recording water quality and temperature;
  • Assisting in the delivery of various aquatic and safety programs;
  • Potentially instructing swim lessons, aqua fitness, or similar activities;
  • Engaging with participants of diverse ages and skill levels;
  • Helping patrons with program registration and conducting audits as needed;
  • Promoting various aquatic and safety initiatives;
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with colleagues and the public, emphasizing quality service;
  • Interacting with patrons in a friendly, enthusiastic, and caring manner.
Lead Lifeguard:

The essential functions of this role include, but are not limited to:
  • Carrying out the responsibilities of Lifeguard I and II;
  • Assisting in the supervision and support of lifeguard staff to ensure public safety;
  • Helping to establish work schedules;
  • Contributing to the planning and execution of lifeguard training sessions.
Minimum Qualifications

Lifeguard I:
  • Must be at least fifteen years old;
  • Possess a current "Lifeguarding" certification from the American Red Cross;
  • Hold a valid first aid certificate compliant with California Health & Safety Code (Title 22) requirements (can be obtained within 12 months of hire).
Lifeguard II:
  • Same qualifications as Lifeguard I, plus;
  • A minimum of six months of lifeguarding experience.
Lead Lifeguard:
  • Same qualifications as Lifeguard I, plus;
  • A minimum of one year of lifeguarding experience.
Additional Information

This is a temporary position. Priority will be given to students currently enrolled at Cuesta College.

Applications will be considered until all positions are filled. This role does not guarantee specific hours and will commence only after all hiring requirements are satisfied.
