Compensation:
Aquatic Safety Officer I: $19.80
Aquatic Safety Officer II: $21.78

Under the guidance of supervisory or management personnel, Aquatic Safety Officers ensure the safety and well-being of patrons in aquatic settings. This role does not involve direct supervision of staff but may include providing technical direction and training to others.

This entry-level position is part of the Aquatic Safety Officer Series within the Parks and Community Services Department. Individuals in this series typically possess basic work-related experience and operate under general supervision. The distinction between Aquatic Safety Officer I and II lies in the level of skill and independent judgment exercised in work procedures and methods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and maintain patron safety at all times, effectively communicating rules and enforcing facility regulations.
  • Administer first aid and emergency care as necessary, ensuring a safe aquatic environment.
  • Engage with the public, addressing questions and inquiries.
  • Assist with the Swim Lesson program.
  • Maintain records and reports.
  • Participate in mandatory training sessions and meetings.
  • Support senior staff and supervisors as needed.
  • Adhere to City and Parks and Community Services Department policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the upkeep and routine maintenance of the aquatic facility.
  • Exhibit a professional appearance and demeanor, including appropriate attire for the role.
  • Facilitate and instruct swim lessons.
  • Lead recreational activities according to established curriculum.
  • Provide feedback on program goals and schedules to the public and supervisors.
  • Offer leadership to staff and volunteers, supervising participants in program areas.
  • Oversee the waterslide area.
Additional Responsibilities for Aquatic Safety Officer II:
  • Evaluate and assess swim lesson participants.
  • Assist the Lead Pool Manager with aquatic camps.
  • Manage participant dispatching for the waterslide.
  • Act as a Lead Aquatic Safety Officer during recreational swim periods.
  • Conduct daily training sessions.
  • Serve as a Team Leader during staff training events.
  • Inspect equipment and aquatic play structures.
  • Conduct internal audits.
  • Ensure timely completion of swim lesson report cards.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Knowledge and Skills Required

Knowledge of:
Basic safety protocols related to recreational programs and facilities. Understanding of municipal aquatics program objectives and requirements. Familiarity with current safety standards and practices in aquatics. Professional work habits, including reliability and enthusiasm. Techniques for effectively engaging with diverse individuals and representing the City positively. Strategies for delivering high-quality customer service.
