Job Summary

The Aquatic Safety Officer operates under the direct oversight of the Aquatics Manager and is accountable for the daily functions of the Aquatics department. This includes ensuring exceptional customer service, maintaining patron safety, overseeing pool upkeep, executing emergency protocols, and conducting routine safety inspections of the swimming facilities and adjacent areas.

It is important to note that the compensation ranges available online for positions not covered by a bargaining unit agreement can be quite broad. However, job offers typically fall within 80% - 120% of the established midpoint. The offer will take into account the experience of the selected candidate as well as the current salary levels of individuals in similar roles at UCSF.

For positions covered by a bargaining unit agreement, specific guidelines will dictate the placement of new hires within the salary range.

Department Overview

UCSF Fitness and Recreation manages two fitness centers at UCSF, providing fitness and wellness services to UCSF Students, Faculty, Staff, and Community members through a diverse array of fitness, recreation, aquatics, personal training, outdoor activities, and health and wellness programs.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent, possession of an American Red Cross Advanced Life Saving Certificate, a Water Safety Instructor's Certificate, and a current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Certificate; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the necessary knowledge and abilities for successful performance in this role.
  • Active American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate (must be obtained by start date).

Preferred Qualifications

  • American Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) (must be obtained within one year of hire).

License/Certification

  • Active American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate (must be obtained by start date).
