POSITION SUMMARY

The Vice President of Membership and Chapters is instrumental in strategizing, executing, and evaluating the operations of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) to align with its short-, mid-, and long-term objectives. This role is pivotal in advancing NDIA's Strategic Communications Strategy by pinpointing essential topics for engagement, participating in various events, engaging with media, and authoring insightful publications.

As the head of the Membership and Chapters division, the Vice President is responsible for the comprehensive planning, integration, execution, and assessment of all Membership and Chapters initiatives. This position is crucial in enhancing public awareness of NDIA and its affiliates, driving membership growth, and generating revenue to support operational sustainability. The Vice President sets revenue targets and implements strategies and policies to ensure these objectives are met. Additionally, the role involves overseeing the development of the Membership and Chapters budget while ensuring compliance with financial protocols.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs all Membership and Chapters initiatives
  • Supervises the Directors of Membership and Chapters
    • Approves expenditures in line with the budget and financial guidelines
    • Provides ongoing feedback for professional development
    • Conducts performance reviews for Membership staff
  • Identifies staffing needs and proposes solutions to senior leadership
    • Leads the formulation and execution of Membership and Chapters strategies
      • Collaborates with various departments to enhance membership retention and growth
      • Evaluates program effectiveness and drives necessary changes
      • Develops innovative tactics to increase revenue
      • Implements a comprehensive marketing strategy for membership recruitment and retention
      • Ensures alignment with NDIA's overall marketing efforts
      • Creates and communicates member benefit programs
      • Oversees initiatives to strengthen Membership programs
    • Establishes outreach and communication strategies to support NDIA's objectives
    • Represents NDIA at various forums and to the public
    • Writes articles and reports on relevant industry challenges
    • Builds relationships with key stakeholders in government and industry
    • Engages with military leaders to foster understanding of NDIA
    • Manages NDIA's online presence
    • Conducts media outreach to promote NDIA initiatives
    • Utilizes social media to enhance membership engagement
    • Develops tools to improve communication with chapters
    • Creates effective promotional materials for NDIA's objectives
  • Supports the Membership Committee of NDIA's Board of Directors
  • Oversees the development of Standard Operating Procedures for Membership and Chapters operations
    • Manages logistics for NDIA's annual Leadership Conference
    • Collaborates on financial operations for Chapters
  • Leads the annual budget development for Membership and Chapters
    • Ensures adherence to financial timelines and processes
    • Coordinates with other divisions for budget alignment
    • Defends budget proposals to NDIA leadership
    • Monitors monthly budget forecasts
  • Collaborates with various departments to prioritize NDIA's participation in external events
    • Oversees travel arrangements for staff attending trade shows
  • Contributes to the strategic vision of NDIA
  • Enhances public awareness of NDIA's mission
  • Provides insights on strategy and stakeholder engagement
  • Assists in shaping significant NDIA events and programs
  • Performs additional duties as assigned to support NDIA's strategic goals

RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to the Executive Vice President of NDIA
  • Collaborates with various senior leaders on shared interests
  • Maintains positive working relationships with all NDIA staff

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Master's Degree in National Security Studies or a related field (Preferred)
  • At least 20 years of experience in a National Security leadership role
  • Minimum of 15 years in staff supervision with strong interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional critical thinking and public speaking abilities
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
