Job Overview
The Vice President of Operations for the Ambulatory Services is tasked with steering the operational and performance achievements within the Ambulatory Division of UCSF Health's Network Business Unit. This executive role encompasses the implementation and communication of the network's strategic objectives, while fostering collaboration with network leadership.
This leader is expected to cultivate and motivate teams across both established and emerging ambulatory operations, ensuring the fulfillment of network-defined goals pertaining to clinical excellence, financial viability, and expansion.
A successful candidate will exhibit a relationship-driven leadership style, consistently prioritizing engagement with patients, families, physicians, and staff. The Vice President will forge robust partnerships and align with community organizations, physician leadership, and key stakeholders both locally and system-wide, while being prepared to assume additional leadership responsibilities as the organization evolves.

The UCSF Health Care Network is an expanding entity within UCSF Health, dedicated to delivering high-quality, equitable, and affordable healthcare across the Bay Area in collaboration with other healthcare providers and community organizations. The team emphasizes a cooperative approach to enhance UCSF Health's accessibility, quality, and growth, realizing the numerous joint ventures and affiliations that support its strategic vision.
Essential Qualifications
- Significant executive management experience within a complex healthcare organization.
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare delivery frameworks, strategic planning, financial oversight, and program development.
- Experience in managing joint ventures or affiliate partnerships.
- Proven track record in launching new services, including pre-launch construction management, team recruitment, and regulatory compliance oversight.
- Exceptional ability to collaborate effectively with medical center executives, campus leadership, external agencies, and other healthcare institutions.
- Expertise in establishing and utilizing performance metrics to drive operational excellence and facilitate integration.
- Advanced knowledge of capital and operational budget development, financial analysis, and reporting methodologies.
- Thorough understanding of relevant regulatory standards, legislative requirements, and compliance environments.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, along with advanced interpersonal abilities.
- Proficient negotiation and influencing capabilities.
- Ability to foster a culture of trust that inspires commitment to organizational objectives.
- Bachelor's degree in business, health administration, or a clinical field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in business, health administration, or a clinical field is preferred.
