Position Description:

LCG, Inc. is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator who will be responsible for the maintenance and administration of physical and virtual workstations, servers, storage based on Linux, and other proprietary storage operating systems. The administrator will also configure user access and monitor system stability and security through deployment and everyday use. This role requires extensive familiarity with Linux systems and may involve some end user support. The administrator will frequently communicate and collaborate with developers to develop and implement system enhancements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform day to day operational and maintenance activities to ensure the health and stability of the systems and databases, and critical infrastructure components
  • Administration of RHEL, CentOS and OEL 7/8 workstations and servers
  • Administration of VMWare environment
  • Installation, set up, configuration and maintenance of Java Application Servers, Apache Web Servers, and Database Servers as required
  • Monitor systems performance and ensure compliance with security standards
  • Work with development team to implement and support client offerings
  • Test and evaluate system performance
  • Identify, document, and help implement monitoring points with the Enterprise team
  • Develop detailed installation instructions and supporting documentation to effect system design deployments
  • Develop and maintain custom scripts and stored procedures to automate repetitive tasks and improve consistency in operations and maintenance activities
  • Prepare for new product related releases and assist with new initiatives and upgrades
  • Support and ensure system backups and storage replication to cloud services such as Azure and AWS are performed on a daily and weekly basis
  • Provide technical guidance to users and other administrators
  • Help train and transfer knowledge to other engineers and operations
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills and willing to be a team player

Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience as a Systems Administrator in a high availability environment.
  • Strong background in Linux administration CentOS / RHEL /OLE 7/8 and understanding of code and script (PHP, Python, Perl and/or Ruby), including patching
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills and experience in IP networking and static routing FTP, SSH, SMTP, DNS, HTTP/S, DHCP, Syslog logging facility
  • Experience with automation/configuration management using Puppet, Chef or an equivalent
  • Experience with Firewalls (IPTABLES)
  • Experience with SNMP-based monitoring
  • Team player and ability to work independently and effectively under pressure in a high paced environment
  • Independent problem solver and self‐starter. Strong documentation abilities necessary to ensure timely problem resolution
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Timely decision making and organizational skills
  • Ability to set priorities and drive for results

Compensation and Benefits

The projected compensation range for this position is $107,000 to $145,000 per year benchmarked in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
