Patient Care Assistant, Blood Cancer Healing Center

Be a part of a growing Bone Marrow Transplant and Infusion program, by making an indelible impact cancer patient's lives through caring for them with the most advanced treatment.
The PCA will support the Cincinnati regions' only adult FACT-accredited academic blood and marrow transplant program, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards of care and according to policy and procedures.
The Patient Care Assistant provides basic direct patient care as delegated by clinical professional personnel in accordance with delegation law and rules and current education.
The Blood Cancer Healing Center is designed to be an unparalleled hub of expertise and support that will redefine care for blood cancer patients and their families.
The center includes dedicated spaces for whole-person patient care, novel treatments, and basic/translational research—all in one building, all dedicated to the future of cancer care.

The Patient Care Assistant provides basic direct patient care as delegated by clinical professional personnel in accordance with delegation law and rules and current education.
- Provides all patient care in a manner that is culturally based and agespecific. Measures vital signs; reports all changes including mental status. Specimen collection. Assists with activities of daily living (ADL's)
- Provides hygiene and comfort measures. Changes linens as needed. Empties drainage bags and records outputs disposes of bodily fluids/waste. Utilizes patient care equipment.
- Assists with respiratory care for patients. May perform EKG's mobile care phlebotomy (MCP), and blood glucose.
- Communicates patient observations to RN timely and appropriately. Records measurements and patient data. Documents treatments and procedures performed. Responds to and utilizes nurse call system. Reception and phone duties, as directed. Retrieves information from the computer.
- Facilitates the maintenance of a clean, safe and organized environment for patients and coworkers. Removes equipment when no longer in use to appropriate area for cleaning. Reorders and stocks materials as necessary. Reports maintenance issues.
- Ensures call lights answered promptly. Ensures placement of patient identification bands. Ensures that side rails and restraints are applied for patient safety and per policy. Uses proper body mechanics and universal precautions
- High School Diploma or GED
- 06 months of experience with patient care required, 12 years of experience preferred
- STNA preferred
