Duties outlined below are at the full performance GS-6 Licensed Vocational Nurse.

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is an advocate for the patient and the patient's family and promotes safety by practicing within
their scope of practice and in accordance with local policy and procedures.


The LVN at the Primary Care clinics at the El Paso VA Health Care System is responsible for the daily operations in support of a Primary Care provider.


The Rapid Response LVN (RRLVN) is an EXPERT licensed vocational nurse who is responsible for responding to Rapid Response calls.

The Rapid Response LVN is a member of the Rapid Response Team (RRT) who provides rapid response to patients exhibiting objective or subjective signs of clinical instability.

The Rapid Response LVN will utilize their clinical expertise to identify patients to prevent adverse clinical outcomes including cardiac arrest and death.


Responsibilities:

  • Maintain open lines of communication with the Nursing Supervisor/RRT Provider during emergency responses.
  • Utilize knowledge, skills, and critical thinking to focus on the patient's clinical needs.
  • Evaluate and facilitate, with RRT Provider, treatment plan for RRT patients.
  • Utilize standardized order set to treat the patient as required.
  • Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and acts to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
  • Assesses, utilizing age specific data, the patient's physical, psychosocial, and spiritual status in a comprehensive manner.
  • Demonstrates accurate assessment skills, appropriate to the age of the patient, based on scientific facts and principles.
  • Implements plan of care according to identified physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs.
  • Implements and utilizes the Relationship-Based Care Professional Practice Model as the guide to all interactions between patients, families, co-workers, staff, physicians, and self.
  • Assists other staff in the delivery of patient care, as appropriate.
  • Incorporates patient teaching/plan of care to promote optimal patient outcomes.
  • Recognizes, accepts responsibility for, and maintains commitment to professional development and clinical competency.
  • Articulates knowledge and actively participates in nursing practice quality initiatives.
  • Shares knowledge and acts as a professional resource to other members of the health care team.
  • Assists with quality monitoring and data collection of Rapid Response and Code Blue occurrences.

Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday 7:30am to 4:15pm

Education Debt Reduction Program (Authorized): This position is eligible for EDRP, a student loan payment reimbursement program.

You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date.

Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Former EDRP Participants are ineligible to apply for the program.

Pay:
Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Child Care Subsidy:
