Head of Billing Operations

Role Summary:
The Billing Services Director is tasked with overseeing and optimizing the billing and collections operations within the organization. This role requires a proactive leader who can effectively manage resources, enhance staff capabilities, and ensure outstanding service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic direction to departmental managers to allocate resources efficiently based on patient demand, available facilities, budget limitations, and organizational objectives.
- Conduct regular audits of billing processes to identify discrepancies, denials, and appeals, ensuring timely communication of findings to relevant departments for resolution.
- Collaborate on denial management strategies, utilizing Lean principles and root cause analysis to address operational challenges and training needs across the organization.
- Monitor account statuses, focusing on Days on Accounts Receivable, Denials Not Finalized Billing, and cash collection metrics, while setting clear expectations for billing management.
- Engage with vendors to assess performance against contractual obligations and establish key performance indicators for accounts receivable.
- Oversee the Payer Enrollment process, ensuring timely enrollment of providers with all necessary payers and reviewing requirements for Out of State Medicaid beneficiaries.
- Direct the Reimbursement Coordinator in adhering to insurance contractual obligations to maintain compliance with billing practices.
- Assess patient satisfaction regarding billing processes and ensure that collection vendors meet established standards.
- Foster a collaborative environment across the organization to align revenue goals with patient satisfaction.
- Ensure that information systems meet the current and future needs of the billing department, working closely with IT and compliance teams to uphold privacy and security standards.
- Champion and implement LEAN methodologies and strategies within the billing operations.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, or a related field, along with a minimum of three years of experience in managing healthcare receivables.
- Alternatively, candidates with eight years of experience in healthcare and five years in healthcare receivables management will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in a relevant field.
- Certification in Lean methodologies.
- Certification from the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
