Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Evaluating and processing requests for financial aid from patients; confirming patient details and documentation while identifying potential funding options.
  • Engaging with patients and their families to explain eligibility criteria and diligently following up to gather any necessary documentation for timely application completion.
  • Ensuring that applications and referrals are assessed and processed with accuracy and efficiency, adhering to established timelines for relevant programs.
  • Regularly monitoring the progress of applications and programs to identify obstacles and work towards resolving issues; providing determination letters to patients regarding their applications.
  • Recording, documenting, and maintaining monthly statistics related to financial assistance activities and the electronic health record (EHR); ensuring data accuracy and thorough record-keeping.
  • Organizing and maintaining financial assistance applications to facilitate access for hospital staff and external auditors as required.
  • Investigating and verifying patient billing details and benefits to ascertain financial responsibilities for treatments, and meeting with patients to discuss their obligations.
  • Assisting patients in completing necessary forms for FMLA, financial liability, and disability, as well as establishing payment plans and processing payments.
  • Meeting with patients in various settings, including bedside, office, or via telephone.
  • Gaining knowledge and providing assistance related to government assistance programs.

Specific Responsibilities in the Cancer Center:

The Oncology Financial Navigator at the Cancer Center is tasked with overseeing the Medication Assistance/Recovery Program; aiding patients with medication assistance applications and ensuring medications are received, while maintaining a tracking system for each medication. This role serves as the primary contact for all patient billing inquiries related to the Cancer Center.

  • Comprehensive understanding of healthcare operations and financial assistance concepts.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial assistance programs, including guidelines and application processes.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Proficient problem-solving and analytical thinking capabilities.
  • Ability to interpret and apply patient financial data and standard operating procedures.
  • Flexibility to adapt approach based on individual patient needs.
  • Capacity to work independently and efficiently under pressure, while effectively prioritizing tasks.
  • Professional demeanor in a collaborative team environment.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including hardware, software, and MS Office applications.
  • Strong skills in data collection, reporting, and database management.
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills.

Qualifications Needed:

  • Associate degree or higher in Finance, Business, Healthcare, or a related field.
    • OR High school diploma (or equivalent) AND two or more years of relevant work experience.
  • 3 Months: Completion of Marketplace Certification within three months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Epic systems.
  • Background in medical billing or registration.
