A solid understanding of mathematical concepts applied to complex scenarios, along with the ability to interpret and manage budgetary processes, is essential. Experience in product development, design, testing, and validation is crucial, as is the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and integrity. Strong project management skills are required, with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills are necessary for building and maintaining positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.

This role encompasses the following responsibilities:

The Senior Vice President of Engineering will oversee global product development, value engineering, sustaining engineering, and research & development teams. This position is responsible for fostering innovation and growth through the development of new products, enhancements, and cutting-edge technologies from concept to production. A key focus will be on cost reduction and efficiency improvements through value engineering, while also managing the product portfolio through sustaining engineering efforts. Additionally, this role will lead the Research and Development (R&D) strategy to maintain the company's competitive edge, manage the R&D project portfolio, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards and protection of intellectual property. Collaboration with manufacturing teams to resolve design challenges for both new and existing products is essential, along with promoting a culture of continuous improvement and cross-functional teamwork.

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Formulating and leading the long-term vision and strategy for R&D engineering, aligning with the company's business objectives to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Overseeing the creation of innovative products that enhance market competitiveness.
  • Managing the R&D engineering project portfolio, prioritizing initiatives that align with strategic goals and ensuring efficient resource utilization.
  • Developing and implementing strategies for safeguarding and leveraging intellectual property, including patents and trademarks.
  • Driving continuous improvement in R&D, product development, and engineering processes to enhance efficiency and innovation.
  • Building and maintaining strategic partnerships with academic institutions and industry leaders to strengthen R&D capabilities.
  • Serving as a key member of the senior leadership team, providing insights on R&D initiatives and their implications for the company's future.
  • Overseeing design and sprint review processes related to new product development, ensuring timely and quality project completion.
  • Establishing and achieving the annual operating budget for the engineering department.
  • Leading design reviews to ensure products meet specifications and quality standards.
  • Providing constructive feedback to design teams to enhance product designs.
  • Evaluating the feasibility of proposed engineering tasks and tracking progress.
  • Participating in product development roadmap planning to ensure alignment with long-term strategies.
  • Collaborating with marketing to define product strategies based on customer feedback.
  • Partnering with sourcing teams to drive cost efficiencies across the product portfolio.
  • Ensuring compliance with all standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements related to medical device development.
  • Leading new product development projects from concept to market release.
  • Conducting detailed cost analyses for proposed products and projects.
  • Providing strategic project management oversight for new product development.
  • Offering engineering leadership to value and manufacturing engineering teams.
  • Managing staff selection, development, and performance management to ensure optimal resource allocation.
  • Providing timely feedback to staff regarding performance and professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is required; an advanced technical degree in mechanical or bioengineering is preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant design engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in managing technical staff and leading projects.
  • 10+ years of experience in budget preparation and management.
  • Proficiency in developing and writing product development and business reports is required.

Salary Range:

$275,000 - $300,000
