The Senior Vice President of Engineering will oversee global product development, value engineering, sustaining engineering, and research & development teams. This position is pivotal in driving innovation and growth through the development of new products, enhancements, and cutting-edge technologies from conception through design, validation, and production. The focus will be on cost reduction and efficiency improvements through value engineering while maintaining the product portfolio through sustaining engineering. Additionally, this role will lead the Research and Development (R&D) strategy to ensure the company remains a leader in innovation, manage the R&D project portfolio, and ensure compliance with regulations and protection of intellectual property. The candidate will facilitate seamless collaboration with manufacturing to address design challenges for both new and existing products and promote a culture of continuous improvement and cross-functional teamwork. The individual will apply extensive knowledge of engineering principles across various assignments and will represent the company to key customers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and leading the long-term vision and strategy for Research and Development (R&D) engineering, aligning with the company's business objectives to drive innovation and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Overseeing the creation of groundbreaking products that enhance market competitiveness.
  • Managing the R&D engineering project portfolio, prioritizing initiatives that align with strategic goals and ensuring efficient resource utilization.
  • Formulating and implementing strategies for safeguarding and leveraging intellectual property, including patents and trademarks.
  • Driving continuous improvement in R&D, product development, value engineering, and sustaining engineering processes to enhance efficiency and innovation.
  • Establishing and nurturing strategic partnerships with academic institutions and industry leaders to bolster the company's R&D capabilities.
  • Serving as a vital member of the senior leadership team, providing insights on R&D engineering initiatives and their implications for the company's future.
  • Overseeing design and sprint review processes related to new product development, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Establishing and achieving the annual operating budget for the engineering department.
  • Leading design and sprint reviews to ensure products meet specifications and quality standards.
  • Providing constructive feedback to design teams to refine product designs as necessary.
  • Evaluating the feasibility of proposed engineering tasks, creating resource plans, and tracking progress.
  • Participating in cross-functional product development roadmap planning to ensure alignment with long-term strategy.
  • Collaborating with Marketing leadership to define product strategies based on customer feedback.
  • Partnering with Strategic Sourcing to drive cost efficiencies across the product portfolio.
  • Ensuring compliance with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements related to medical device development.
  • Leading new product development projects from concept to market release while balancing leadership responsibilities.
  • Conducting detailed cost analyses of proposed products and projects.
  • Providing strategic project management oversight for the definition, planning, design, testing, documentation, validation, and manufacturing of new products.
  • Offering additional engineering leadership to Value and Manufacturing Engineering teams.
  • Managing staff selection, development, performance management, and resource allocation.
  • Providing timely feedback regarding technical proficiency and effectiveness, and working with staff to identify goals and create development plans.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is required; an advanced technical degree in mechanical or bioengineering is preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant design engineering experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • 10+ years of experience in managing and coordinating technical staff and leading projects is essential.
  • 10+ years of experience in budget preparation and management is required.
  • Ability to develop and write comprehensive product development and business reports is necessary.

Salary Range:

$275,000 - $300,000.00
