Position Overview:

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Senior Cybersecurity Analyst to contribute to our Cyber Operations & Incident Response division. This role involves working on a 9x80 schedule, allowing for every other Friday off.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide and mentor junior analysts in crafting technical solutions for information operations and assessments related to national security, including intrusion detection, system vulnerabilities, network security, and advanced analytical tools.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and assist in the development of junior engineers to identify security vulnerabilities in existing platforms and applications.
  • Devise concepts, algorithms, and methodologies aimed at thwarting network intrusions.
  • Develop code to uncover system weaknesses and validate the effectiveness of patches.
  • Conduct penetration tests and vulnerability evaluations.
  • Execute advanced analysis and reverse engineering of various types of software to detect suspicious code.
  • Create scripts and software utilities to streamline security analysis efforts.
  • Work alongside senior technical staff to plan, execute, and oversee assignments, monitor progress, and assess outcomes.
  • Provide direct guidance and support to junior personnel in their technical development.
  • Engage with clients independently or lead teams to establish requirements, develop and test code, and produce necessary documentation.
  • Foster client relationships and address customer inquiries through briefings and reports.
  • Collaborate with clients to identify research outcomes, resolve challenges, and determine subsequent actions.

Qualifications:

  • Level 3: Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of relevant experience or an Advanced Degree with 3 years of experience in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Level 4: Bachelor's Degree with 8 years of relevant experience or an Advanced Degree with 6 years of experience in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience in conducting vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and red teaming within ICS and embedded system environments.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity scenario development, test generation, and training for red teams focused on ICS and embedded system infrastructure.
  • Lead, propose, and execute research and development initiatives for cybersecurity in ICS and embedded systems.
  • Proficient with Linux, Solaris, and Windows operating systems and development tools.
  • Familiarity with searching and sorting algorithms, decision trees, and memory management.
  • Understanding of Zero Day exploits and packet-level programming, with a personal interest in computing and programming.
  • Experience in designing and creating AI algorithms that facilitate machine learning.
  • Preferred educational backgrounds include Computer Science/Engineering, Mathematics, or other technical disciplines with a Computer Science foundation.
  • This position necessitates the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship (preference for candidates with existing clearance).
