Position Summary

:

This role provides an opportunity to contribute significantly at one of the leading health and wellness companies globally. As the Principal Scientist, you will serve as the in-house authority on Skin, Sun, and Lip care technology execution. Your responsibilities will include identifying and pursuing new research and technology opportunities while providing technical support for Marketing and Customers from concept to product realization. The focus will be on Skincare, Sun care, and Lip care technologies, among others. A minimum of a science-related degree, direct supervisory experience, and/or over 7 years of industry experience in the FMCG sector, particularly in Beauty, Bath and Body, and Skin Care, is required.

Key Responsibilities

:
  • Conduct technology assessments of competitive products to identify market and technology trends, supporting with competitive physical, chemical, and aesthetic evaluations.
  • Perform literature reviews to provide informed judgments on efficacy and safety, ranking the quality of research.
  • Evaluate potential regulatory, patent, and safety issues related to existing and new formulations.
  • Conduct performance evaluations to demonstrate the superiority of our key products through in-house and independent laboratory testing as necessary.
  • Execute appropriate tests to support formulations and claims; select and modify suitable procedures for laboratory evaluations of product samples, conduct competitive tests, etc.
  • Lead essential tests such as potency, stability, and consumer evaluations in-house and/or through external testing.
  • Continuously enhance existing products for cost efficiency while improving product quality for our consumers.
  • Understand and adhere to all relevant good laboratory practices, maintaining a safe, organized workplace and accurate, up-to-date records of laboratory activities.
  • Collaborate with R&D, International, Operations, and Marketing teams to achieve shared objectives.
  • Independently plan, support, and make sound technical judgments to fulfill project plans and goals.
  • Communicate research plans and progress to R&D management, colleagues, and business partners.
  • Develop strategies for securing ownership of intellectual property and navigating competitive patents; provide independent support for new patent applications.
  • Propose and demonstrate innovative concepts to R&D management based on both external and internal capabilities.
  • Continuously update technical knowledge by studying new scientific advancements, competitive products, new raw materials, and regulations affecting various markets.
  • Independently prepare documentation detailing research findings.
  • Establish seamless working relationships with R&D associates and colleagues from other departments, efficiently collaborating with turnkey suppliers.

Qualifications

:
  • BS, MS, or Ph.D. in a chemistry-related discipline.
  • Five or more years of relevant experience in a scientific field and/or supervisory roles.
  • Proficient in conducting in vitro, in vivo, and/or clinical assessments.
  • Knowledgeable in toxicology and safety evaluations.
  • Able to quickly gain proficiency in new methods, techniques, and technologies.
  • Skilled in the use of personal computer applications.
  • Experienced in experimental design.
  • Familiar with global regulations, good manufacturing practices, laboratory practices, product registration, and labeling compliance.
  • Capable of writing reports, patents, and SOPs, as well as preparing documentation on research findings.
  • Able to develop and utilize laboratory test methods and product use tests to support regulatory and/or product claims.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
