Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a talented AI Engineering Scientist to contribute to our Model Base Design Department. Our team operates on a 9x80 schedule, allowing for every other Friday off, with potential hybrid work options. You will report directly to the Department Manager and will be responsible for applying mathematical, statistical, and computational techniques to derive insights from extensive datasets related to engineering design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct data analysis and generate results to meet various analytics, visualization, and modeling requirements across diverse computational environments (cloud, on-premises, edge).
- Utilize advanced technologies, including Explainable AI/Machine Learning (AI/ML), Large Language Models (LLMs), and physics-informed machine learning methodologies.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers on complex projects.
- Exhibit strong research capabilities and partner effectively with government entities, academic institutions, and private sector organizations to fulfill project objectives.
- Publish research findings in reputable journals and present at conferences.
- Engage with other research teams to create integrated technical programs for a variety of stakeholders.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation, software, and applications.
- Collaborate with software and database developers to design, test, and implement software solutions across various environments.
- Analyze data quality, identify issues, and develop repeatable procedures for accurate data analysis.
- Work with domain experts to define the scope of inquiries that can be addressed using datasets and design effective output metrics.
- Employ cutting-edge data analysis and modeling tools to support INL's mission of ensuring the safe and sustainable use of engineered systems.
- Adhere to INL policies and procedures related to software development, cybersecurity, and data management.
- Diagnose data and software system issues in collaboration with data providers and developers.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in data science, engineering, mathematics, computer science, physics, artificial intelligence, or a related field.
- Experience requirements vary based on educational background, including options for Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degrees.
- Proficiency in data science, data analysis, and software development using programming languages such as Python, C#, Java, or C++.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with cloud services and analytics platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Familiarity with tools such as SciPy, PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Natural Language Processing techniques.
- Understanding of version control systems (e.g., Git).
