Position Overview:

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a Senior Cybersecurity Analyst to contribute to our Cyber Operations & Incident Response division. This role involves working a 9x80 schedule, providing a balanced work-life environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide and mentor junior analysts in creating technical solutions for information operations and assessments related to national security, including intrusion detection, system vulnerabilities, network security, and advanced analytical tools.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to identify security vulnerabilities in existing platforms and applications.
  • Devise concepts, algorithms, and methodologies aimed at thwarting network attacks.
  • Develop code to identify system weaknesses and assess the effectiveness of patches.
  • Conduct penetration tests and vulnerability evaluations.
  • Engage in advanced analysis and reverse engineering of various types of software to pinpoint suspicious code.
  • Create scripts and software utilities to streamline security analysis processes.
  • Coordinate with senior technical staff to plan, execute, and manage assignments, monitor progress, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Provide direct support and guidance to junior personnel in their technical development.
  • Work with clients independently or lead teams to gather requirements, produce and test code, and prepare necessary documentation.
  • Establish and maintain client relationships, addressing requests through briefings and written reports.
  • Assist clients in identifying research outcomes, resolving issues, and determining subsequent actions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Level 3: Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years of relevant experience or an Advanced Degree with 3 years of experience in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Level 4: Bachelor’s Degree with 8 years of relevant experience or an Advanced Degree with 6 years of experience in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience in conducting vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and red teaming within ICS and embedded system environments.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity scenario development, testing generation, and training for red teams against ICS and embedded system infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to lead and conduct research and development for cybersecurity in ICS and embedded systems.
  • Demonstrable experience with Linux, Solaris, and Windows operating systems and development tools.
  • Familiarity with searching and sorting algorithms, decision trees, and memory management.
  • Understanding of Zero Day exploits and packet-level programming, along with a personal interest in computing and programming.
  • Experience in designing AI algorithms capable of learning and making predictions, fundamental to machine learning (ML).
  • Preferred academic backgrounds include Computer Science/Engineering, Mathematics, or other technical disciplines with a Computer Science foundation.
  • This role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, necessitating U.S. Citizenship (preference for candidates with existing clearance).

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary range for this position: Level 3 - $109,260 min - $223,908 max / Level 4 - $130,980 min - $268,680 max. Compensation is determined based on education, relevant experience, and other qualifications.
