Position Overview

The Walker Beacon School, a private non-profit institution dedicated to special education, is in search of a Secondary Mathematics Educator to join our team.

Under the guidance of the Administrative Team, this educator will take on the responsibility of instructing small classes of up to eight students, primarily focusing on those with social emotional challenges.

This role involves the creation and execution of course curricula that align with Massachusetts educational standards, along with the chance to design and teach innovative courses tailored to student needs.


Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree is mandatory;

Preferred:
Certification in Moderate Special Needs, grades 5-12, and at least one year of direct teaching experience in a comparable environment; a valid MA DESE subject license at the appropriate grade level is also preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement tailored course curricula for assigned subjects.
  • Create formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback for each student in every class.
  • Offer guidance to fellow educators with learning disabled students in their classes.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records for each session, ensuring daily updates.
  • Keep detailed grade records for all classes.
  • Assist in sourcing and ordering new curriculum materials.
  • Foster a safe learning environment by integrating therapeutic supports and enforcing school policies.
  • Utilize Walker Beacon's therapeutic intervention model, including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), and implement treatment protocols as outlined in students' treatment plans, IEPs, and individual support plans.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Prepare and submit course outlines and unit plans for each subject taught.
  • Engage in administrative tasks related to special education students, such as Progress Reports and Individual Educational Plans.
  • Meet weekly with the Educational Director for supervision and support.
  • Document critical incidents as necessary.
  • Act as an Academic Advisor or Homeroom Teacher for designated students.
  • Share insights on student progress with other members of the Beacon staff, including clinicians, guidance counselors, and administrators.
  • Engage in the school community by leading activities, advising clubs, and monitoring student areas.
  • Provide academic support to assigned students.
  • Maintain regular communication with students and families regarding progress and concerns.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.
