Position Overview:
This role entails extensive fieldwork across various project sites, necessitating regular travel. The Safety Compliance Specialist is responsible for executing a range of safety-related tasks, including site assessments, coaching, onboarding, and training, all aimed at supporting the Power Team's operational planning. Assignments may vary based on project needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough inspections of rights of way, substations, and other work areas to ensure adherence to safety regulations and company policies.
  • Identify and document hazardous conditions, proposing solutions and ensuring corrective measures are enacted.
  • Prepare detailed reports for safety inspections, emphasizing areas of concern and recommending appropriate actions.
  • Collaborate with the Safety Manager to pinpoint critical focus areas and determine inspection schedules.
  • Generate and submit safety inspection documentation in accordance with company standards.
  • Ensure the availability of necessary safety supplies in coordination with the Safety Manager.
  • Assist in the investigation of accidents, compiling data and creating reports in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Issue work permits as needed, including those for confined spaces.
  • Support federal, state, and local safety inspectors during site evaluations.
  • Facilitate onboarding for new hires and provide ongoing training for employees.
  • Stay informed about relevant health and safety regulations and ensure compliance in all operations.
Supervisory Role:
  • This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to work in diverse weather conditions and remain active for extended periods.
  • Strong communication and leadership capabilities.
  • Effective skills in managing workloads, including planning, organizing, and prioritizing tasks.
  • Proven decision-making skills while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively within a diverse team environment.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • CUSP certification from the Utility Safety & Ops Leadership Network is required or must be obtained within one year.
  • 2-5 years of experience in regulated utilities, particularly in transmission, distribution, and substations.
  • OSHA 500 certification is highly preferred.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health is strongly preferred.
  • ET & D 10 and 20-hour certifications are preferred.
  • ASP or GSP certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required.
Safety Considerations:
  • Work hours typically range from 8-12 hours per day, 5-6 days per week, in varying environmental conditions.
  • Daily use of personal protective equipment is mandatory, and employees may encounter wildlife.
  • Job duties may involve working in confined spaces and on uneven terrain, with appropriate safety measures in place.
