Position Overview

This role is pivotal in guiding and enhancing the safety culture at Harrison Construction Company, a CRH Company. The ideal candidate will possess a strong drive and exceptional organizational capabilities, alongside proficient communication and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Engage directly with company leadership to address Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) issues.
  • Support the maintenance of safety compliance and awareness across various company locations and construction projects through regular site assessments and collaboration with local management to rectify any identified issues.
  • Work closely with field teams to promote EHS principles, expectations, and individual accountability.
  • Formulate and execute policies, procedures, and training materials aimed at fostering a robust safety culture.
  • Collaborate with the CRH EHS team to create new initiatives, objectives, and best practices.
  • Participate in training sessions and meetings provided by CRH or national safety organizations as necessary.
  • Conduct training sessions, including:
    • Mandatory regulatory training
    • CRH required training as applicable
  • Effectively manage work-related injuries, incidents, or near misses, including:
    • Investigating incidents to identify causes and contributing factors
    • Implementing injury prevention strategies
    • Documenting and reporting incidents
    • Executing corrective action plans
    • Coordinating with Worker's Compensation TPA and adjusters for case management.
  • Maintain OSHA documentation for safety and health programs, including OSHA 300 logs, monthly reports, and annual surveys.
  • Prepare technical documentation for management regarding regulatory compliance and internal/external needs.
  • Assist with environmental compliance as required.
  • Consult with Human Resources on safety-related matters, including:
    • New hire orientations
    • Toolbox talks
    • Monthly safety briefings
    • Safety incentive programs
    • Annual safety conferences
    • Disciplinary actions related to safety
    • Return-to-work processes
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to creating and continuously enhancing a safe work environment.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor and maintain respectful interactions with colleagues, clients, and the public, adhering to the Code of Business Conduct.
  • Ensure regular and punctual attendance.

Qualifications

To excel in this position, candidates must effectively fulfill each essential duty.

Education/Experience

  • Experience in road construction, asphalt paving, and manufacturing is preferred.
  • A BA/BS degree in Occupational Safety or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in industrial safety is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Familiarity with OSHA/DOT/EPA regulations concerning environmental, health, and safety.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse employee groups.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new technologies and industry standards as well as government regulations.

General Requirements

  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to build relationships and achieve results.
  • Willingness to collaborate in a team environment and assist colleagues or supervisors as needed.
  • Ability to travel to various meetings and events at offsite locations.
  • Extended hours may be required, including nights and weekends.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary.
