About the Role

As a Patient Registration Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring a smooth and efficient patient experience at Baylor Scott & White Health. You will be responsible for gathering essential patient information, verifying insurance coverage, and facilitating financial transactions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough patient interviews to collect demographic and financial data required for registration, insurance verification, pre-authorization, and billing purposes.
  • Register patients across various locations within the healthcare system, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of patient flow processes in each area. Identify opportunities for process improvement that enhance team collaboration, revenue cycle efficiency, and patient satisfaction.
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments and teams to provide timely and accurate information regarding patient schedules, delays, and other relevant updates.
  • Verify patient eligibility for insurance coverage and benefits for anticipated services. Calculate and collect patient financial responsibilities according to established financial clearance policies, including managing existing and outstanding accounts. Determine patient liability and clearly communicate deposit requirements based on policy guidelines. Negotiate payment arrangements with patients as needed, adhering to established procedures.
  • May be responsible for cashiering duties, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures. This may encompass a significant portion of the role's responsibilities within the department.
  • Provide patient assistance by offering directions, escorting them to nursing units, and providing medical mobility support (e.g., wheelchair assistance) when required.
  • Maintain strict compliance with order validations, cash handling policies, government payor requirements, and patient safety protocols, including proper patient identification procedures.
  • Effectively escalate potential service issues to management as needed.

  • Ability to remain calm and composed in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, demonstrating empathy and understanding towards patients and families facing challenging situations.
  • Strong customer service orientation, with a commitment to providing exceptional patient care.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and efficiently.
  • Proficiency in data entry, numerical calculations, typing, and computer navigation.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
