Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Placement Coordinator to join our team at Tufts Medicine. As a key member of our revenue cycle operations, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient processing of patient registrations, billing, and collections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct pre-registration tasks for inpatients and outpatients, including collecting demographic, financial, and clinical information.
  • Obtain consent for treatments and authorizations as necessary, and explain signature requirements to patients and their representatives.
  • Verify patient insurance coverage and ensure accurate plan codes are added to registration.
  • Collect and document patient liability, including deductibles, co-insurances, and co-payments.
  • Provide excellent customer service and deliver exceptional professional courtesy to patients, physicians, and insurance companies.
  • Meet productivity and customer service benchmarks, including wait times, call monitoring scores, and number of registrations or calls processed.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of medical office, insurance, or hospital registration experience preferred.
  • Strong computer literacy and familiarity with electronic spreadsheets and patient registration systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work and be flexible with assignments.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid programs.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent sitting, occasional standing or working, and lifting of 10-15 pounds.
  • May be exposed to dust and other typical office-like discomforts.
  • Manual dexterity using fine hand manipulations for computer keyboard operation.
  • Requires ability to see computer screen and read reports.
  • Requires ability to hear instructions from physicians and other clinical or nursing staff.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong customer service skills, including excellent interpersonal and telephone skills.
  • High degree of tact necessary due to frequent interaction with patients, physicians, and insurance companies.
  • Experience using computer-based patient registration systems.
  • Thorough understanding of private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid programs.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Excellent organizational skills required, with attention to detail and ability to prioritize work and be flexible with assignments.
