Overview

Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital is seeking a skilled Patient Care Associate to join our team. As a valued member of our healthcare team, you will work under the guidance of a registered/licensed nurse (RN) to provide clinical support functions and maintain a safe and empathetic patient care setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute patient care plans as directed by the Registered Nurse, ensuring timely and effective delivery of care.
  • Provide physical patient care, including bed baths, toileting, grooming, changing linens, and other essential tasks, following established protocols and guidelines.
  • Deliver general patient care, such as positioning, lifting, turning, and utilizing adaptive and transfer equipment, in accordance with established standards and procedures.
  • Perform patient monitoring tasks, including taking vital signs and monitoring blood glucose levels, following established protocols and guidelines.
  • Prepare patients for meals, offering assistance as needed to meet their requirements and promote a positive patient experience.
  • Conduct regular patient rounds and respond promptly to call lights to address patient needs and concerns.
  • Document patient care promptly and accurately, adhering to set standards and guidelines.
  • Organize patient room clutter to optimize space and maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Obtain and label specimens in accordance with established procedures and protocols.
  • Provide mentorship and training for new nursing assistants to meet performance standards and promote a culture of excellence.
  • Complete additional activities as per department, organization, or network objectives, demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement and quality care.

Qualifications and Experience

Education/Degree

Required:

A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required, unless the candidate has a nursing assistant certification.

Experience/Certification

Required:

Recent experience and/or training in clinical patient care is essential.

Preferred:

  • Enrollment in a Nursing, Pre-Med, or Physician Assistant (PA) undergraduate program, with at least one semester of completed patient care rotations at the time of hiring.
  • Possession of a valid license, certification, or enrollment as a student in a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Mental Health Technician, or EMT-accredited program at the time of hiring.

Skills

Required:

  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
  • Basic proficiency in math and computer science.
  • Ability to perform, modify, and document all physical therapy skills with relevance to thoroughness and sequencing.
  • Healthcare Provider CPR certification is required.
  • Familiarity with DPH/OEMS regulations.

Preferred:

  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, catering to a diverse population.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team, anticipating challenges and developing strategies to handle them.
  • Deliver service at a high level, showcasing initiative in prioritizing work, meeting deadlines, and adapting to changes.
