Position Overview

The Dauphin County Library System is seeking a dedicated full-time Information Resources Administrator. This pivotal role involves leading the collection management and information services departments to effectively address the needs and interests of the community. The individual in this position will be responsible for overseeing and enhancing the library's collection in alignment with State Standards and organizational objectives.

Qualifications and Educational Background:

Educational Requirements: A Master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences or enrollment in an American Library Association accredited MLS program is preferred. A Bachelor's degree is mandatory.

Experience Requirements: A minimum of five years of experience in public service within a library environment is essential. At least two years of supervisory experience is required, along with proficiency in technology and a solid background in information research and cataloging. Candidates should possess two years of active experience with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, as well as internet research capabilities in a Windows setting. Exceptional customer service and communication skills are crucial, along with the ability to lift 25 lbs. without assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise collection management, information services, inter-library loan, and cataloging operations.
  2. Ensure the library's collection is developed and maintained in accordance with State Standards and system objectives.
  3. Manage and support the Collection Management and Information Services teams.
  4. Conduct regular staff meetings to foster communication and collaboration.
  5. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all modules of the Integrated Library System (ILS) utilized by the collection management team.
  6. Establish and nurture relationships with vendors and publishers to ensure efficient and cost-effective acquisition of new library materials and databases.
  7. Develop and manage departmental and collection budgets effectively.
  8. Coordinate acquisition expenditures with the finance department.
  9. Provide training for library staff in Collection Management and collaborate with district partners regarding inter-library loan inquiries and requirements.
  10. Stay informed about library trends and best practices to enhance service delivery.
  11. Communicate system-wide goals, priorities, and changes in policies and procedures to staff members.
  12. Collaborate with the marketing team to create strategies for promoting information services and library resources.
  13. Participate in staff meetings and continuing education workshops, as well as system committees.
  14. Promote a culture of excellent customer service.
  15. Embody the Core Values of the organization.
  16. Perform additional related duties as assigned.
