Position Overview:

The Assistant Vice President of Construction at McNeil & Co. plays a pivotal role in overseeing the technical underwriting and account management of substantial construction casualty programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Technical Underwriting: Gather and analyze new and renewal account information essential for risk evaluation. Identify potential exposures and hazards associated with coverage requests and individual risk characteristics.
  • Risk Assessment: Evaluate insurance and financial risks, structuring suitable loss-sensitive programs to safeguard against frequency, severity, catastrophic, and credit risks.
  • Proposal Development: Underwrite pricing and prepare proposals based on objective and subjective risk characteristics, input from internal teams, existing product offerings, and regulatory requirements.
  • Account Management: Manage all post-bind activities, including policy production, compliance, audits, legal agreements, and coordination with third-party administrators.
  • Sales and Marketing: Cultivate and maintain relationships with producers and insured parties to meet production and profitability objectives. Engage with stakeholders to address account-specific issues and develop strategic plans for Arch's positioning.
  • Administrative Duties: Ensure comprehensive documentation of underwriting and policy files. Undertake special projects as directed by management.
Required Skills and Knowledge:

In-depth understanding of Workers Compensation, General Liability, and Automobile coverage forms, with the ability to customize according to program design. Proficiency in loss-sensitive programs, including pricing, actuarial techniques, and effective use of facultative reinsurance. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with sales and negotiation abilities. Capability to lead and support team members in a collaborative environment.

Experience:

A minimum of seven years of underwriting experience, preferably within the construction sector, with established broker relationships in the Northeast Region being advantageous.

Education:

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent training is required. CPCU or similar designations are a plus.
