The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in power systems and a comprehensive understanding of the interactions between distributed generation and existing distribution and sub-transmission networks.
In this pivotal role, you will spearhead New Leaf Energy's transmission prospecting initiatives and collaborate closely with internal teams from interconnection, project development, and finance to pinpoint potential photovoltaic (PV) sites, shape prospecting strategies, and conduct transmission analyses for our projects.
On the external front, you will engage with third-party consultants, utility engineers, and other industry experts to advocate for New Leaf Energy's Utility Scale Portfolio.
Your responsibilities will also include evaluating utility study outputs and advising the development team on project modifications and opportunities to utilize available capacity.
New Leaf Energy is a seasoned clean energy developer that collaborates with landowners, policymakers, and various stakeholders to expedite the transition to a renewable energy-powered world.
We identify valuable sites, engage with landowners and local communities for development, and partner with long-term asset owners to realize impactful clean energy projects.
Key Responsibilities:- Act as the regional planning engineer across multiple ISO territories.
- Assist developers in navigating the transmission network to identify system capacity and optimal interconnection locations.
- Support project developers in assessing potential project sites for feasibility and necessary network upgrades.
- Create transmission network models utilizing PSSE, TARA, or similar software.
- Conduct transmission system analyses, including power flow, stability, and reactive power compensation.
- Review utility impact studies and challenge methodologies when appropriate.
- Lead advocacy and technical negotiations to advance New Leaf Energy's projects.
- Onboard and manage third-party consultants for engineering analyses as required.
The successful candidate will ideally possess a combination of the following experiences, skills, and attributes:
- 3+ years of experience in power engineering, with a focus on transmission planning.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Strong comprehension of transmission system impacts related to the interconnection of distributed energy resources (DER) and knowledge of engineering solutions to address these challenges.
- Familiarity with T&D protective relay schemes.
- Proven ability to lead strategic initiatives in a dynamic, team-oriented, multi-stakeholder environment.
- Self-motivated individual with a strong drive for success and execution of both short- and long-term strategic objectives.
- Experience with power systems modeling software such as PSSE, PSCAD, PSLF, SKM/ETAP, Aspen, etc.
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
New Leaf Energy offers a competitive compensation package that includes a market-competitive base salary, above-market variable compensation, and an equity-like program that allows all employees to benefit from ownership.
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $111,490 - $125,110, with an on-target annual cash bonus of 10% of the base salary. Actual salaries may vary based on location and experience.
