Emerald Nursing & Rehab Mercy is in search of a dedicated Recreation Program Coordinator to enhance our community engagement through compassionate and friendly service.


Overview:
Recreation Program Coordinator

Accountable for the development and management of a diverse range of activities tailored for residents within the healthcare facility.

The primary objective of the activity program is to foster both mental and physical engagement while cultivating a vibrant social environment for all residents.


Key Responsibilities:
Recreation Program Coordinator

Exhibits understanding of age-specific developmental aspects pertinent to adult and senior residents (including physical, cognitive, and social factors) when designing activity programs.


Possesses the knowledge, skills, and techniques essential for organizing activities catering to residents with various needs, including therapeutic, neuro & dementia care, dialysis, IV therapy, and infectious diseases when applicable.

Participates in all required training sessions by the employee's anniversary date.

Operates under the guidance of the Administrator and actively collaborates with the interdisciplinary team.

Demonstrates flexibility in adapting to changes in unit/shift assignments to address resident and family requirements.

Effectively communicates and adheres to the Corporate Compliance program, ensuring compliance with the Code of Conduct during work activities.

Leads other activity staff in executing activity programs and services within the facility. Aids in the training and supervision of volunteers and students.


Distributes a schedule of planned activities to all Department Heads and ensures calendars are posted in easily accessible and legible locations for residents and staff.


Submits a monthly statistical report to the Administrator detailing the number of scheduled activities and engages in in-service programs as necessary.


Maintains comprehensive records, including resident information, progress notes, attendance, discharge summaries, Resident Council meeting minutes, and activity assessments and plans for each resident.

Participates in Care Plan conferences to identify issues and formulate goals and strategies for inclusion in the Care Plan.

Conducts in-service training related to activity policies and procedures for both activity staff and facility personnel as appropriate.

Interviews new residents upon admission to ascertain their interests and needs regarding various activity programs.


Offers personal assistance to residents, such as writing letters, mailing packages, and facilitating transportation to community events when available.

Delegates tasks to activity staff to ensure the smooth operation of activity programs.

Processes resident progress reports at the nurses' station.

Decorates the facility with seasonal decorations, including holiday themes.

Conducts various Quality Assurance audits.

Requests equipment and supplies necessary for activity programs, conducts inventory audits, and prepares the annual budget for Activities.

Performs light housekeeping duties, such as cleaning up after events and programs, as needed.

Collaborates with the Administrator to uphold established Activity standards.

Interpersonal Skills:
Adheres to the Resident's Bill of Rights and maintains confidentiality regarding resident information.

Engages with residents, family members, colleagues, clinical, and ancillary staff in a supportive and calm manner.

Addresses resident and family satisfaction concerns promptly by reporting them to the Supervisor professionally.

Understands the Resident Abuse Reporting Law.

Participates in the orientation of new staff, demonstrating a positive, helpful, and enthusiastic demeanor.

Safety Responsibilities:
Demonstrates the ability to locate emergency equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, oxygen equipment, etc.).

Understands and exhibits knowledge of their role in Fire and Disaster drills.

Recognizes and responds appropriately to potential behavioral outbursts.

Utilizes facility equipment safely.

Identifies, removes, and/or reports potential hazards.

Adheres to established safety protocols and accident prevention measures.

Infection Control Responsibilities:
Demonstrates proper hand hygiene techniques.

Maintains appropriate food handling practices and ensures glove usage when necessary.

Disposes of waste correctly.

Understands and upholds activity/kitchen sanitation procedures when applicable.

Resident Dignity Responsibilities:
Treats residents with respect.

Discusses confidential resident information only in designated areas.

Other duties as assigned by the CEO/Administrator.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications include experience in leading activities within a healthcare environment.

Leadership experience in directing and evaluating staff is essential.

Current state license or certification as required by state regulations.
