Recreation Program Manager

Accountable for the design and execution of a varied activities program tailored for the residents of the healthcare facility.

The primary objective of the program is to foster mental and physical engagement while cultivating a vibrant social environment for all residents.


Key Responsibilities:
Recreation Program Manager

Exhibits understanding of age-specific developmental considerations pertinent to adult and elderly residents (including physical, cognitive, and social factors) when planning activities.


Possesses the knowledge and skills required to create programs for residents with diverse needs, including therapeutic, neuro & dementia care, dialysis, IV therapy, and managing infectious diseases as necessary.

Participates in all required training sessions by the employee's anniversary date.

Collaborates effectively under the guidance of the Administrator and contributes as a proactive member of the interdisciplinary team.

Demonstrates flexibility in adapting to changes in unit or shift assignments to accommodate resident and family requirements.

Communicates effectively and adheres to the Corporate Compliance program, ensuring alignment with the Code of Conduct during work activities.

Leads other activity staff in executing the activity programs and services within the facility. Aids in the training and supervision of volunteers and students.


Provides all Department Heads with a comprehensive schedule of planned activities and ensures calendars are displayed in accessible and clear locations for residents and staff.


Submits a monthly statistical report to the Administrator detailing the number of planned activities and engages in relevant in-service programs.


Maintains thorough records, including resident information, progress notes, attendance logs, discharge summaries, Resident Council meeting minutes, and individual activity assessments and plans.

Attends Care Plan meetings to identify issues and formulate goals and strategies for inclusion in the Care Plan.

Conducts training sessions related to activity policies and procedures for both activity staff and facility personnel as appropriate.

Interviews new residents upon admission to assess their interests and needs regarding various activity programs.


Offers personal assistance to residents, such as writing letters, mailing packages, and facilitating transportation to community events when available.

Delegates tasks to activity staff to ensure smooth operation of activity programs.

Processes resident progress reports at the nursing station.

Decorates the facility with seasonal decorations, including holiday themes.

Conducts various Quality Assurance evaluations.

Requests necessary equipment and supplies for activity programs, performs inventory audits, and prepares the annual budget for activities.

Handles light housekeeping duties, such as cleaning up after events and programs, as needed.

Collaborates with the Administrator to uphold established activity standards.

Interpersonal Skills:
Demonstrates awareness of and adherence to the Resident's Bill of Rights and confidentiality of resident information.

Engages with residents, family members, co-workers, and clinical staff in a supportive and calm manner.

Addresses resident and family satisfaction concerns promptly by reporting them to the Supervisor professionally.

Understands the Resident Abuse Reporting Law.

Participates in the orientation of new staff, showcasing a positive and enthusiastic attitude.

Safety Responsibilities:
Demonstrates knowledge of the location of emergency equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, oxygen equipment).

Understands and demonstrates knowledge of roles during Fire and Disaster drills.

Identifies and responds appropriately to potential behavioral outbursts.

Utilizes facility equipment safely.

Adheres to established safety protocols and accident prevention measures.

Qualifications:

Minimum requirements include experience in leading activities within a healthcare environment.
