Position Overview:
Activities Director

As the Activities Director, you will be responsible for designing and overseeing a comprehensive array of activities tailored for the residents of our healthcare facility.

The primary objective of the activity program is to foster both mental and physical engagement while cultivating a vibrant social environment for all residents.


Key Responsibilities:
Activities Director

• Exhibit a deep understanding of age-specific developmental considerations pertinent to adult and geriatric residents when planning activity programs.


• Apply knowledge, skills, and techniques to create activities that cater to various resident needs, including therapeutic, neuro & dementia care, dialysis, IV therapy, and infection control as necessary.

• Attend all required training sessions by the designated anniversary date.

• Collaborate effectively with the Administrator and actively participate as a member of the interdisciplinary team.

• Adapt to changes in unit or shift assignments to address the evolving needs of residents and their families.

• Communicate and adhere to the Corporate Compliance program, ensuring alignment with the Code of Conduct in all work functions.

• Lead other activity staff in executing activity programs and services within the facility. Assist in the training and guidance of volunteers and students.


• Provide all Department Heads with a detailed schedule of planned activities and ensure calendars are posted in accessible and clear locations for residents and staff.


• Deliver a monthly statistical report to the Administrator detailing the number of planned activities and engage in relevant in-service programs.


• Maintain comprehensive records, including resident information, progress notes, attendance, discharge summaries, Resident Council meeting minutes, and individual activity assessments and plans.

• Participate in Care Plan conferences to identify challenges and formulate goals and strategies for inclusion in the Care Plan.

• Conduct in-service training related to activity policies and procedures for both activity staff and facility personnel as appropriate.

• Interview new residents upon admission to ascertain their interests and needs regarding various activity programs.


• Provide personal assistance to residents, such as writing letters, mailing packages, and facilitating transportation to community events when available.

• Delegate tasks to activity staff to ensure the smooth operation of activity programs.

• Process resident progress reports at the nurses' station.

• Decorate the facility with seasonal themes, including holiday decorations.

• Conduct various Quality Assurance audits.

• Order equipment and supplies necessary for activity programs, conduct inventory audits, and prepare the annual budget for Activities.

• Perform light housekeeping duties, such as cleaning up after events and programs, as needed.

• Collaborate with the Administrator to uphold established Activity standards.

Interpersonal Skills:
• Uphold the Resident's Bill of Rights and maintain confidentiality regarding resident information.

• Engage with residents, family members, colleagues, and clinical staff in a supportive and respectful manner.

• Address resident and family satisfaction concerns promptly by reporting them to the Supervisor professionally.

• Be knowledgeable about Resident Abuse Reporting Law.

• Participate in the orientation of new staff, demonstrating a positive and enthusiastic attitude.

Safety Responsibilities:
• Demonstrate the ability to locate emergency equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, oxygen equipment).

• Understand and apply knowledge of roles during Fire and Disaster drills.

• Identify and respond appropriately to potential behavioral outbursts.

• Use facility equipment safely and recognize, remove, or report potential hazards.

• Adhere to established safety protocols and accident prevention measures.

Infection Control Responsibilities:
• Demonstrate proper hand hygiene practices.

• Maintain appropriate food handling procedures and ensure glove usage when necessary.

• Dispose of waste correctly.

• Understand and uphold activity/kitchen sanitation procedures as required.

Resident Dignity Responsibilities:
• Address residents respectfully.

• Discuss confidential resident information only in appropriate settings.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO/Administrator.

Qualifications:

• Experience in leading activities within a healthcare environment is essential.

• Proven leadership experience in directing and evaluating staff is required.

• Current state license or certification as mandated by state regulations is necessary.
