Position Overview:
The Chief Risk Management Officer is tasked with spearheading initiatives focused on patient safety and risk oversight throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
This role encompasses the management of claims, execution of risk evaluations, conducting root cause analyses, and leading the Patient Safety Council.

Collaboration with departmental leaders and the executive team is essential to implement strategies aimed at risk mitigation, ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, and promote ongoing enhancements in patient safety.

Essential Duties:

  1. Financial Oversight:
    Assist in the formulation of budgets for designated departments, ensuring operations align with budgetary constraints and strive to surpass financial expectations.
  2. Cost Management:
    Effectively oversee departmental expenditures, anticipate variations, and identify avenues for cost savings.
  3. Staffing Efficiency:
    Monitor workforce levels, adjust full-time equivalents (FTEs) in accordance with demand and organizational objectives, ensuring compliance with legal and care standards.
  4. Policy Formulation:
    Develop and enforce policies that bolster service delivery.
  5. Human Resource Management:
    Maintain adequate staffing levels, address shortages promptly, and implement strategies to retain skilled personnel.
  6. Performance Evaluation:
    Assess staff qualifications, provide ongoing feedback, and ensure timely completion of performance reviews.
  7. Leadership Development:
    Identify staff training needs and facilitate appropriate development opportunities.
  8. Interdepartmental Collaboration:
    Work alongside peers to ensure consistent practices and optimal resource utilization.
  9. Quality Assurance:
    Lead initiatives aimed at process improvement, utilizing data to enhance quality outcomes.
  10. Regulatory Compliance:
    Maintain readiness for surveys and promptly address areas for improvement.

Risk Management Program Administration:
Serve as a key resource for senior leadership and staff, manage serious incident investigations, and oversee the risk management database.

Education and Training:
Provide education on risk management and patient safety best practices.

Job Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required; a Master's degree is preferred. A minimum of 5-7 years of clinical experience in Risk Management is essential, along with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity, ideally within an acute care environment. CPHRM certification is preferred.

Essential Skills:
Strong communication abilities, proficiency in statistical analysis, and knowledge of Joint Commission standards are crucial for success in this role.
