Chief Risk Management Officer

Position Overview:
The Chief Risk Management Officer is tasked with spearheading initiatives focused on patient safety and risk mitigation throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
The role encompasses the management of claims, execution of risk evaluations, conducting thorough root cause analyses, and leading the Patient Safety Council.
Collaboration with departmental leaders and the executive team is essential to implement strategies aimed at reducing risks, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, and fostering continuous enhancements in patient safety.
This position necessitates a high level of expertise in data analysis, reporting, educational initiatives, and leadership capabilities.
Essential Duties:
- Financial Oversight:
Assist in formulating budgets for designated departments, ensuring operations remain within financial parameters while striving to surpass expectations. - Cost Management:
Effectively oversee departmental expenditures, anticipating changes and identifying cost-saving opportunities. - Staffing and Productivity:
Monitor staffing levels, adjusting full-time equivalents based on volume and organizational objectives, while ensuring compliance with legal and care standards. - Policy Development:
Formulate and implement policies that bolster service delivery. - Human Resources Management:
Maintain optimal staffing levels, implement retention strategies, and ensure compliance with job qualifications. - Leadership and Development:
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, facilitating staff development and conflict resolution. - Quality Assurance:
Lead process improvement initiatives, ensuring the department meets or exceeds quality benchmarks. - Emergency Preparedness:
Engage in drills and demonstrate a clear understanding of emergency protocols. - Risk Management Program Oversight:
Serve as a key resource for senior leadership, manage serious incident investigations, and maintain the risk management database. - Education and Training:
Provide education on risk management practices and ensure compliance with care standards.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required; a Master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of 5-7 years of clinical experience in Risk Management is essential, along with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity, ideally within an acute care environment. CPHRM certification is advantageous.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong communication skills, proficiency in statistical analysis, and a solid understanding of Joint Commission standards are crucial. The ability to lead effectively, coupled with strong interpersonal skills, is essential for success in this role.
