Position Summary

This role is a standard student technical position where the individual will deliver customer support to the university community through various channels including phone, email, online platforms, and face-to-face interactions for the Office of Information Technology (OIT).

Weekly Hours
  • Flexible hours available.
  • Monday - Thursday: 7:30 AM - 7:30 PM.
  • Friday: 7:30 AM - 6:00 PM.
  • Saturday - Sunday: 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
Department Overview

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) is dedicated to enhancing educational experiences, improving service and communication, and increasing access to valuable information through technology. The IT department provides computing, networking, e-learning, telecommunication, training, and support services to students, faculty, staff, and the broader university community. Responsibilities include performing computer-related tasks and customer service duties in an office environment. Typical responsibilities may encompass typing, filing, answering calls, and assisting with customer inquiries.

Specific Job Responsibilities

Key duties involve answering phone calls, resolving computer-related issues, documenting incidents and requests, providing application support, and executing other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must maintain at least half-time enrollment to qualify for any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment is defined as 5 credit hours for graduate students and 6 credit hours for undergraduates. International students are required to be enrolled full-time to be eligible for student employment, which is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer Semester: Student employees in regular positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 credit hours to be eligible for summer work. Students not enrolled in summer courses must be registered for fall classes to work during the summer, and both the student and the department will be subject to FICA taxes. Students in Federal Work Study Program positions must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (graduate) to work during the summer.

Enrollment Exception: If a student needs fewer credit hours to graduate than the minimum required for student employment, they must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor confirming the number of hours needed to graduate and their expected graduation date, which should be submitted to Human Resources. This applies to both regular and Federal Work Study Program positions.

Required Qualifications/Experience
  • The ideal candidate should demonstrate responsibility and reliability.
  • Experience in providing high-quality customer service, including professional communication and telephone etiquette.
  • Familiarity with Windows, Macintosh, iPhones, and Android devices.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience

A solid understanding of technical skills is not mandatory, but candidates who possess basic troubleshooting abilities and can effectively communicate with clients regarding various issues are preferred.
