Position Overview

This role is a vital student technical position where the individual will deliver exceptional customer support to the university community through various communication channels including phone, email, online platforms, and face-to-face interactions for the Office of Information Technology (OIT).

Work Schedule
  • Flexible hours per week.
  • Monday - Thursday: 7:30 AM - 7:30 PM.
  • Friday: 7:30 AM - 6:00 PM.

Department Overview

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) is dedicated to enhancing educational experiences, improving service delivery, and facilitating access to valuable information through technology. The department provides a range of services including computing, networking, e-learning, telecommunication, training, and support for students, faculty, staff, and the broader university community. Responsibilities include performing technical and customer service tasks in an office environment, which may involve typing, filing, answering calls, and assisting with customer inquiries.

Key Responsibilities

Duties encompass responding to phone inquiries, diagnosing computer-related problems, documenting incidents and requests, providing application support, and executing additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Enrollment Requirements

Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must maintain at least half-time enrollment to qualify for any student position at UCO. Half-time enrollment is defined as 5 credit hours for graduate students and 6 credit hours for undergraduates. International students are required to be enrolled full-time to be eligible for student employment, which is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 credit hours for undergraduates.

Summer Semester: Student employees in regular positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 credit hours to work during the summer. Students not enrolled in summer courses must be registered for fall classes to maintain eligibility for summer employment, and both the student and the department will be responsible for FICA taxes. Student employees in Federal Work Study positions must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (undergraduate) or 5 credit hours (graduate) during the summer.

Enrollment Exception: If a student requires fewer credit hours to graduate than the minimum required for employment, they must obtain a letter from their Academic Advisor confirming the number of hours needed for graduation and the expected graduation date, which must be submitted to Human Resources. This applies to both regular and Federal Work Study positions.

Qualifications/Experience Required
  • Candidates must demonstrate responsibility and reliability.
  • Experience in providing high-quality customer service, including professional communication and telephone etiquette.
  • Familiarity with Windows, Macintosh, iPhones, and Android devices is essential.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience

While advanced technical skills are not mandatory, candidates should possess a basic understanding of troubleshooting and be capable of effectively assisting clients with various issues.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
