Position Overview

This role is part of the Federal Work Study Program (FWSP) and involves substantial physical and manual tasks. Responsibilities include conducting inspections of fire extinguishers and AEDs, assisting the Fire/Life Safety Technician with the maintenance and troubleshooting of the campus fire alarm systems, and supporting the Director of Emergency Management with various projects.

Work Schedule

Flexible working hours are available, allowing for up to 25 hours per week, arranged in coordination with the supervisor.

Department Overview

The Emergency Management Unit operates under the Department of Public Safety (DPS) at the University of Central Oklahoma, focusing on ensuring the safety and security of the campus community.

Key Responsibilities

Tasks may include, but are not limited to:
  • Moving furniture or equipment
  • Working with technical apparatus
  • Inspecting fire safety equipment
  • Performing outdoor maintenance tasks
  • Assisting with preventive maintenance duties

Enrollment Criteria

Fall/Spring Semesters: All student employees must maintain at least half-time enrollment to qualify for any student position. For Fall/Spring, half-time is defined as 5 credit hours for graduate students and 6 credit hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible for student employment, which is 9 credit hours for graduates and 12 for undergraduates.

Summer Semester: Student employees in regular positions must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 credit hours during the summer. Those not enrolled in summer classes must be registered for Fall classes to work on campus, with the requirement that both the student and the department will incur FICA taxes. FWSP positions require a minimum of 6 credit hours for undergraduates or 5 for graduates during the summer.

FWSP Eligibility

To qualify for the Federal Work Study Program (FWSP), candidates must be approved for work study through the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships and must accept their FWSP award in the designated system. Note that Summer FWSP is a separate application process and is not included in the Fall/Spring award.
