Position Overview

The Assistant Team Leader in the Produce department plays a vital role in supporting the team leader with daily operations, focusing on profitability, expense management, purchasing, merchandising, labor oversight, compliance with regulations, and various special projects as assigned. This position is essential in fostering a positive company image by delivering exceptional service to both customers and team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the team leader to develop and maintain an innovative store layout and effective product merchandising strategies.
  • Assist in achieving sales, purchasing, and labor objectives through diligent analysis and reporting.
  • Demonstrate extensive product knowledge while staying informed about new offerings.
  • Build and maintain strong vendor relationships, ensuring all necessary documentation is submitted for processing.
  • Act as the primary point of contact and departmental leader in the absence of the team leader.
  • Uphold the highest standards of retail execution and operational excellence.
  • Encourage a collaborative environment that promotes teamwork, respect, and high morale among team members.
  • Monitor customer flow and needs, directing team members to ensure customer satisfaction and prompt responses to inquiries.
  • Engage in the selection, training, and development of team members to foster a high-performance culture.
  • Conduct timely and comprehensive performance evaluations to support team member growth.
  • Consistently communicate and embody the vision and goals of the organization.

Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of 18 months of retail experience, including at least 6 months in a supervisory role.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Capability to stand or walk for 6-8 hours during an 8-hour workday.
  • Proficient in various hand motions including grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to perform bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching motions.
  • Exposure to approved cleaning chemicals and varying temperatures.
  • Willingness to work in a wet and cold environment.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment, including box cutters and electric pallet jacks.
