Do you excel at steering technical teams through complex projects, ensuring alignment and focus on delivering outstanding outcomes? If you are passionate about fostering team success and know how to maximize each individual's potential, then Unreal Gigs has an ideal opportunity for you. We are seeking an Engineering Manager (also known as The Team Captain) to guide our engineering teams towards excellence.

Picture yourself leading a team of dedicated engineers in an organization that prioritizes innovation, quality, and teamwork. As the Engineering Manager at Unreal Gigs, you will oversee the daily operations of the engineering team, ensuring that projects are completed on schedule, within scope, and to the highest standards. This position is not merely about managing personnel; it is about cultivating an environment where your team can flourish and produce exceptional results.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Team Development:
  • Guide, mentor, and nurture a team of software engineers, promoting a collaborative, innovative, and high-performance culture. You will set the tone, direct the team, and ensure that each engineer receives the necessary support to thrive.
  • Project Oversight and Delivery:
    • Manage the execution of various projects, ensuring timely completion, adherence to budget, and maintenance of high-quality standards. You will collaborate with other departments to align and achieve all project objectives.
  • Championing Process Improvements:
    • Identify and implement opportunities for process enhancements and best practices to boost team productivity and product quality. You will refine workflows, introduce new tools and methodologies, and ensure that our development processes are both efficient and effective.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
    • Work in close partnership with product managers, designers, QA, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes. You will serve as the liaison between engineering and the broader organization, ensuring clear communication and aligned objectives.
  • Talent Acquisition and Retention:
    • Play a pivotal role in attracting top engineering talent and retaining high-performing individuals. You will help build a team that is not only technically proficient but also aligned with the company's culture and values.
  • Quality Assurance Advocate:
    • Ensure that all engineering outputs adhere to stringent quality standards. You will implement testing strategies, conduct code reviews, and establish continuous integration practices to guarantee that our products are reliable and of high quality.
  • Performance Management:
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and set clear objectives for team members. You will ensure that every engineer is on a path of continuous improvement and career development.

Requirements

Essential Skills:

  • Technical Expertise: Strong foundation in software engineering, with a comprehensive understanding of software development methodologies, tools, and best practices. You are equally comfortable in code reviews and strategic planning discussions.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven experience in leading and mentoring software engineering teams, with a history of delivering successful projects. You are the type of leader who can inspire and motivate a team to produce their best work.
  • Project Management Proficiency:
    • Strong project management skills, particularly in Agile environments. You are organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while keeping teams focused and aligned.
  • Process Improvement Mindset:
    • Deep understanding of software development processes and a commitment to continuous improvement. You are always seeking ways to enhance team efficiency and product quality.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Exceptional ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You ensure that everyone is informed and working towards the same objectives.
  • Sense of Humor:
    • A great sense of humor, as we believe in fostering a work environment that is both productive and enjoyable. If you can bring joy to your team's faces during challenging times, you are our ideal leader.

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience with a proven track record in software engineering leadership is also valued.
  • Certifications in Agile, Scrum, or relevant methodologies are advantageous. Contributions to open-source projects or published technical papers are considered a plus.

Experience Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership role such as Engineering Manager, Team Lead, or similar. You have successfully led teams that have delivered scalable and reliable software solutions.
  • Proven experience in building and scaling software products in dynamic environments, particularly in sectors such as SaaS, fintech, or healthtech.
  • Experience with both frontend and backend development, as well as cloud computing and microservices architecture.
