Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

§ Conducts thorough investigations and diagnostics of manufacturing processes and equipment; identifies issues and implements effective solutions to enhance operational efficiency.

§ Enhances process capability and output; upholds and elevates quality standards; innovates and executes operational practices that ensure safe and efficient plant performance.

§ Analyzes manufacturing systems; recommends and executes enhancements to processes or equipment as necessary.

§ Evaluates processes; performs measurements; interprets data; tests new methodologies; suggests modifications, updates, or other adjustments.

§ Gathers essential data to facilitate improvements and modifications as assigned.

§ Applies scientific principles to assess process efficiencies.

§ Ensures equipment operates as intended and at optimal capacities; spearheads the implementation of solutions when equipment performance is subpar.

§ Utilizes simulation software as required; establishes best practices for production methodologies.

§ Maintains manufacturing reliability; enhances production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs, and changeovers. Ensures operational actions contribute to reliability.

§ Collaborates with equipment designers and manufacturing teams to create cost-effective production processes.

§ Acts as a mentor to junior engineers; provides guidance and training as necessary.

§ Supervises the work of junior engineers; offers constructive feedback as appropriate.

§ Assists in scheduling and coordinating tasks to meet stringent deadlines; adheres to financial budgets.

§ Engages with various engineers, planners, operations personnel, and other departments as needed.

§ Maintains regular communication with plant operators, addressing their operational concerns and suggestions.

§ Collects, documents, and transcribes operational data.

§ Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual operational reports; submits reports to the Production Manager.

§ Assesses process efficiency, quality, and safety; recommends improvements as necessary; troubleshoots plant equipment and systems.

§ Investigates causes and effects of critical and emergency shutdowns; analyzes data before and after shutdowns.

§ Evaluates how process modifications will impact overall production and product quality; implements process enhancements to reduce costs and boost efficiency.

§ Aids in project planning and management; initiates minor capital upgrades as requested.

§ Provides insights during incident investigations as requested; advises on corrective measures.

§ Researches advancements in manufacturing technology; recommends updates as appropriate.

§ Adheres to safety protocols at all times. Evaluates safety and environmental considerations as needed; ensures safe working conditions and compliance with health and safety regulations.

§ Complies with all safety procedures and practices relevant to the position; participates in safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of environmental, health, safety, and sustainability principles.

§ Performs additional duties as assigned by management that generally align with the expected scope of this role.

§ Leads an assigned team of engineers; assumes delegated responsibilities of the Production Manager in their absence.

§ Reviews and develops Standard Operating Procedures.

Experience Requirements

§ Significant experience as a Process Engineer in large-scale petrochemical operations.

§ Extensive operational experience in ethylene and MEG plants, along with significant CAPEX project experience.

§ Proficient in researching best practices in chemical plant operations; knowledgeable about safety, health, and environmental regulations applicable to engineering and construction.

§ Capable of interpreting engineering specifications, drawings, schematics, and related documents.

§ Familiar with complex government regulations and adept at integrating requirements into chemical manufacturing processes.

§ Skilled in translating technical plans into clear, understandable terms for effective communication across all organizational levels.

§ Knowledgeable about industry rules, regulations, best practices, and performance standards in process engineering.

§ Highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented; possesses strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

§ Excellent time management and organizational skills; adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

§ Strong analytical and mathematical skills; possesses a solid understanding of core engineering and manufacturing principles.

§ Comfortable with the integration of new technologies into existing business frameworks.

§ Experienced in working with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including RCRA.

§ Capable of multitasking, prioritizing, and following through on assignments.

§ Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite; able to utilize database systems and other relevant software.

§ Fluent in English, with strong reading, writing, and speaking skills to communicate effectively at all organizational levels.

Education Requirements

§ Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

§ Professional Engineer certification is advantageous.

§ Six Sigma certification is a plus.

Work Environment

The ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required is essential. General office noise may be present, along with louder sounds and vibrations in outdoor settings.
