Job Overview

Position Summary

This role is dedicated to overseeing the management and program execution of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste within the designated facility, ensuring adherence to all relevant documentation and regulatory standards pertaining to waste management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides expert technical assistance for waste-related operations, including processing and loading activities.
  • Guarantees accurate documentation and safe handling of various waste types, including solid, liquid, hazardous, radioactive, and mixed wastes.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements concerning safety, environmental practices, inspections, packaging, and transportation related to waste management.
  • Prepares necessary waste-related reports for regulatory agencies and facility management at local, state, and federal levels.
  • Leads and participates in audits and assessments, including self-assessments as required.
  • Maintains comprehensive records of storage area inspections, waste profile forms, disposal requests, shipping documents, and waste characterization data.
  • Coordinates technical testing and documentation of waste containers, including sampling, assay, and leak testing.
  • Implements initiatives aimed at waste minimization and pollution prevention.
  • Oversees the activities of personnel involved in waste management operations.
  • Contributes to the development of programs and work packages; facilitates training sessions.
  • Conducts facility inspections to ensure compliance with environmental procedures and relevant permits and regulations.
  • Collaborates with contractors to sustain monitoring programs and environmental management practices.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement to reduce environmental waste and damage.
  • Assists in the creation of hazard control programs to mitigate contamination and accidents.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains waste-related environmental plans and procedures for the facility.
  • Supports environmental operations coordination; assists with permit renewals and regulatory compliance as needed.
  • Monitors state and federal regulatory developments; evaluates their impact and recommends necessary adjustments.
  • Applies knowledge of environmental regulations to propose strategies and solutions for waste management challenges.
  • Ensures adherence to proper waste disposal protocols throughout the facility.
  • Identifies waste materials and conducts risk assessments on hazardous substances.
  • Trains personnel on safety protocols for waste handling.
  • Evaluates and coordinates the storage and management of hazardous waste.
  • Complies with all safety procedures relevant to the position; participates in safety training and demonstrates commitment to EHSS principles and values.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by management that align with the role's responsibilities.

Experience Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in handling, characterizing, packaging, and transporting various waste types.
  • In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations regarding waste management.
  • Proven ability to conduct research, explore alternative solutions, and recommend effective strategies for waste management issues.
  • Experience in implementing environmental programs.
  • Skilled in preparing and executing technical reports.
  • Familiarity with waste management risk assessments, corrective actions, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and database systems relevant to the position.
  • Fluent in English, with strong communication skills across all organizational levels.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental science, chemistry, or a related field.
  • RCRA training and relevant certifications.
  • Various environmental training certifications.
